Hi Bob,
Malcolm Gladwell has three interesting books that I would recommend: Outliers, Blink, and The Tipping Point.
Thanks,
Mark
Mark Thanks. I read the Tippoing Point. I am going to be home-bound for surgery soon, so I should get the others.
Hi Bob,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I am located in Reno, Nevada
I will think about the invitation to write a guest blog on “non-words” that are in use today. How do you write and submit a ‘guest blog’? I am new to blogging and you are the first person I have written to because I find your writings interesting.
What kind of surgery are you going in for and how soon will you be going in if I may ask?
I think you will really like “Outliers” by Malcolm Gladwell, “Blink” is interesting as well.
Thanks,
Mark
I will email you more info.
Hi Bob,
It has been awhile since my last comment. How was surgery and your recovery? By the way, thanks for connecting on Linked-In.
The website above is my wife’s – you will find the information there fascinating and inspiring (Goodness tab).
I enjoyed reading your latest ‘the right words’ and two that I particularly like are lectern (not podium) and gantlet (not gauntlet), which I have not used correctly in the past. I guess you could say that I am “eager” to use them in the future.
A couple of “non-words” ( is that a word?) that are used all the time – ‘irregardless’, ‘anyways’ and ‘gotta’; and while I am on the subject of speaking (communicating) – “filler-words” are just as distracting (they take the place of Ahs & Ums) – these would be multiple uses of the words “like” and “you know” in a single sentence (I find myself counting these words at times! instead of listening – my bad).
By the way I dove (diving, diver) in the ‘natatorium’ in Long Beach, CA back in 1972 and the facility was referred to as the ‘natatorium’. I don’t know if I will use ‘aglet’ in the near future, but I did get a kick out of your ‘moveivg sale’ sign.
Till next time – stay in good health,
Mark Franey

Hi Mark
Thanks for the note. I am glad you like the blog. Irregardless really grates on me too. I hear some learned people use it. The same for “exact same.”
My quad bypass surgery first anniversary will be Sept. 17, so I have made it a year. Most days I walk about 45 minutes, and I feel great.
Keep in touch,
Bob
Hi Bob
It has been two years since my last post. Wow!
How are you doing? Are you back to 100% since your surgery?
I read your article on ‘carat’ and ‘karat’ – very nice. I hope you are doing well. I will post more often in the future.
Thanks,
Mark
Mark I am doing well. It has been two years since my surgery Thanks for reading my blog.
